The Taree Community Kitchen helps the vulnerable of the Manning region irrespective of their age, gender, physical and intellectual capacity, religion or ethnicity.
We currently serve free meals five days a week, Monday to Friday, between noon and 1pm. On average, about 30 meals are served each day of operation, but the kitchen offers far more than a hot meal.
With the assistance of volunteers, CatholicCare has created a space where people can feel safe and enjoy the company of others. The kitchen is a potential outreach opportunity for disadvantaged people to access other services via information and referral.
We are non-government funded and rely primarily on the generosity of the Taree community, volunteers and donors to provide this invaluable service. Some of the kitchen’s major sponsors include Club Taree, Car Park Deli, Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation, Coles – SecondBite Community Connect Program, Woolworths, Mayo Private Hospital, MidCoast Council, Manning Valley Pie Company, Manning Valley Free Range Eggs, Eddie's Fresh Chickens, Bakers Delight, McGrath Butchers, Centrepoint Fresh Chickens and Game Meats, Centrepoint Gourmet Meats, Mentges Master Meats, J&M Bake Café, The Gourmet Butcher (Old Bar), Comboyne Culture Boutique Cheese, Wingham Beef Exports and AJ Wilson Wholesale Food Distributors.
On 1 July 2020, CatholicCare also opened a community kitchen in Forster.
The kitchen always welcomes additional support. To register your interest in becoming a volunteer or donor to the Taree Community Kitchen please contact CatholicCare on (02) 6539 5900.
