Community Programs

Supporting those in need is at the heart of everything we do.

CatholicCare Community Programs comprises our Community Kitchens (based in Taree, Forster, Newcastle, Hamilton South and Toronto), and our Refugee Hub.

Underpinning our Community Programs are the Catholic social teaching principles of dignity of the human person and the common good.

Community Kitchens

CatholicCare is committed to providing excellence in care and assistance to families, children and individuals. This extends to supporting and reaching out to the marginalised and vulnerable in our community.

Our Community Kitchens are located in Taree, Forster, Newcastle, Hamilton South and Toronto to offer practical help for people in need. To further assist the disadvantaged, this outreach program also provides information and referrals to other services in our network that may be useful for their needs.

On average, we serve approximately 800 hot and nutritious meals each week across our five locations. Working in collaboration with other agencies including Orange Sky Laundry, our team of dedicated volunteers provide food, hospitality and friendship to anyone who visits the site.

The success of our Community Kitchens is contingent on the generous support of local businesses who provide fresh produce, meat and bakery items that our volunteers use to make nutritious meals, and financial donations from the public.

Community Refugee Hub

The Refugee Hub plays an integral role in the settlement of refugees in the Newcastle and Hunter region. By working collaboratively with other service providers, Refugee Hub walks with refugees to support and empower them on their journey to independence.

Refugee Hub operates a comprehensive and individualised intake and referral system, as well as providing short-term casework support for refugees and new migrants to access community services. Utilising Refugee Hub’s experienced and professional networks, refugees and new migrants are provided with strong advocacy and referral pathways to connect with the supports they need.
