Description:

CatholicCare Social Services is seeking a self-motivated and passionate individual to join our Youth Adult Services Team in a rewarding role, Youth and Family Counsellor EIPP (Early Intervention Placement Prevention). This position will be based in the Maitland Area and be offered on a part-time maximum term contract.

The Youth and Family Counsellor EIPP provides short term counselling, parenting skill development programs and referral services to young people, young parents and families with young children in the Maitland Cessnock and Dungog LGA region.  There will also be a focus on working alongside Aboriginal communities (in particular) and supporting cultural journeys for vulnerable Aboriginal families through community activities.

Essential Criteria:
  • Relevant qualification in counselling, psychology, social work or similar.
  • Experience, or ability to, work with young people and their families in a therapeutic and supportive manner.
  • Ability to build rapport with Aboriginal young people, families and communities who have complex issues and also may be hesitant to engage in a counselling/ supportive process.
  • Strong organisation skills including time management, record keeping and timely communication with all stakeholders.
  • Commitment to, and ability to develop strong networks and partnerships within the Maitland and Cessnock LGA community to support local youth.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, in a self-directed manner.
  • Good computer literacy.
  • Current NSW drivers licence.
  • Commitment to the Mission, Vision and Values of CatholicCare.
  • Relevant qualification in counselling, psychology, social work or similar.
  • Working with Children Check.
  • Current Drivers Licence.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake a national police check, hold a current employee working with children check, complete a health assessment declaration, hold a current NSW driver’s license, and have the ability to work within Australia.
