Martha Cafe and Catering
CatholicCare currently operates an onsite café and function centre located at the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle grounds on Hunter Street, Newcastle.
Welcome to Martha, a not-for-profit café and catering service that creates employment opportunities for young people in our community who may face barriers to entering the workforce.
Through our café and event catering services, CatholicCare Hunter-Manning provides opportunities for individuals to gain practical hospitality experience, build confidence, and develop the skills needed to move into long-term employment.
Our café also offers professional catering for events across the Hunter region. Alongside delivering high-quality food and service, Martha provides supported employment and training opportunities for people seeking a pathway into the workforce.
For many people, employment is about more than just having a job. It provides the chance to develop skills, gain financial independence, and build connections with others in the community and workplace.
The café and catering initiative works alongside other CatholicCare programs, such as our Supported Independent Living Program, and with local community networks to identify employment opportunities for people who may not otherwise have easy access to work.
As part of the standard employment process, candidates are interviewed, screened and onboarded before commencing work with our team. Staff receive training and supervision as they develop their skills in a supportive and professional workplace.
Our team members come from many different backgrounds and bring a wide range of experiences and talents to Martha. At CatholicCare, everyone is welcome, and our team is committed to delivering high-quality hospitality and excellent customer service while contributing positively to the community.

Martha Café and Catering can be found at 841 Hunter Street, Newcastle West at the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle grounds.
The team also manages two onsite function rooms and provides catering for a wide range of meetings, events and gatherings.
Martha provides employment and training opportunities for young people, supporting them to build skills and confidence as they take steps into the workforce.
