The fundraiser afternoon was a reminder of the strong sense of community within CatholicCare, bringing staff together to celebrate, connect and support those most in need.

CatholicCare Social Services Hunter-Manning staff recently came together for a fun and meaningful gathering to raise funds for Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion, celebrate the approaching Easter season, and acknowledge a very special milestone for one of our long-serving team members.

Fifty staff members from our support services attended the event, enjoying a relaxed afternoon that included a BBQ fundraiser, water-themed team games and the opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the organisation.

The fundraiser supported Project Compassion, Caritas Australia’s annual Lenten appeal, which raises funds to support communities experiencing poverty and injustice around the world. Through programs that focus on access to clean water, education, sustainable livelihoods and community development, Project Compassion helps empower people to build brighter futures for themselves and their families.

The BBQ proved popular, with sausage sandwiches and drinks sold to raise funds for the appeal. Staff also took part in a series of light-hearted water-based challenges, including a sponge relay, blindfolded water balloon toss and water trivia – all designed to highlight the daily challenges many communities face in accessing safe and reliable water.

A highlight of the afternoon was celebrating Dave Wilson, Case Manager for the Supported Independent Living program’s 20th work anniversary with CatholicCare.

Reflecting on the milestone, Dave said working at CatholicCare has been both rewarding and meaningful.

“Over the past 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some incredible people and supporting many young members of our community when they need it most,” Dave said.

“It’s been a great journey, with many wonderful success stories along the way. I’m grateful to be part of an organisation that cares about the difference it makes in people’s lives through quality support services.”

CatholicCare Director Lisa Craven said the event was a wonderful opportunity to bring staff together, while supporting an important cause.

“It was fantastic to see so many staff come together to celebrate Easter, recognise Dave’s incredible milestone, and raise much-needed funds for Project Compassion,” Lisa said.

“At CatholicCare, we see every day how important it is to support people facing difficult circumstances. Through initiatives like Project Compassion, we are reminded that our mission extends beyond our local community and connects us with people around the world who need support, dignity and opportunity.”

Staff raised $257 funds on the day through food sales and donations, with additional contributions also made online for Project Compassion.

The afternoon was a reminder of the strong sense of community within CatholicCare, bringing staff together to celebrate, connect and support those most in need.
