From kitchen hand to fine dining, Jackson’s journey at Martha
Success doesn't happen overnight. For Jackson, it started with a willingness to give something new a go. From his first days washing dishes at Martha to securing a chef's role in fine dining, his journey is a testament to the impact of support, perseverance and believing in what's possible.
When Jackson joined Martha in 2022, he started out washing dishes as a kitchen hand. What began as his first step into hospitality soon became the foundation for an exciting career.
After transitioning from the program into employment, Jackson found the move to Martha seamless. With support from his case worker, including assistance with housing and encouragement to pursue goals like gaining his licence, he was empowered to try new things and build confidence along the way.
"My transition from SIL program to Martha was seamless," said Jackson.
His commitment and enthusiasm led to an apprenticeship, where he developed valuable skills and experience in the kitchen. Jackson says his time at Martha gave him the tools to grow beyond the café and prepared him for the next stage of his career.
Martha Chef, John mentored Jackson through his work. "We gave him the tools to go out there to be the chef that he could be and flourish."
Now, he’s taking that next step, moving into a fine dining role at Cypress Lakes Resort in Pokolbin. Looking ahead, Jackson hopes to travel the world, working in different countries and continuing to grow his hospitality career.
Jackson’s journey is a powerful example of how the right support and opportunities can help people discover their potential and achieve their goals.
Martha is looking for a Cook to join the team.
This is a great opportunity to be part of a purpose-driven workplace where food, community and creating opportunities come together.
